Our New Escape Room Venue

It’s been a long time since our last blog post and SO much has changed since then…

If you’ve googled ‘Swindon escape rooms’ recently, you probably spotted that the pin labelled Co-Decode has disappeared from BSS House. And reappeared in the middle of Morley Street in town!

We have finished the mammoth task of dismantling the entire old venue in BSS House and transforming a new building into the perfect home for our games. As you can imagine, we were absolutely thrilled when we recently found out that our new escape room venue had been acknowledged with an award.

Local Building Excellence Award Swindon

Local Building Excellence Awards

On 11 June 2025 we made our way to the civic offices on Euclid Street to join the Local Building Excellence Awards ceremony. Each year, Swindon building projects that stand out in terms of building quality, vision and implementation are credited this way.

Co-Decode Swindon Escape Rooms were thrilled to not only be nominated, but to receive the award for Best Non-Residential Conversion. The award was handed to us by lovely Mayor Howard, and it was an honour to be recognised alongside much bigger players than us.

You can find out more about the awards here. Sadly, as one of the smaller companies we are not mentioned by name, but if you squint you can spot Alex in the photo!

ouside building Morley

From old…

Our new escape room venue is located at 29-30 Morley Street. Right next to the big Granville Street car park and within easy reach of great restaurants and bars.

This address used to be two separate buildings back when it was built in late Victorian times, but some time around the 1970s it was combined into one big set-up. Downstairs had a separate corridor to allow direct access to the first floor, which is why it still looks like we have two front doors.

When we took over the building, the ground floor was used by a local tattoo artist who was about to retire. The entire upstairs area including the back extension was disused, but had some remnants of old dance and photography studios still in place.

… to new!

As you can see from the picture above, the layout of the building was rather clunky with lots of ‘dead’ space. For example to get to one toilet you would have to go through a tiny kitchen, then into another room with a sink, and then into the room with the toilet itself! It was clear to us that we would have to rejig the entire layout of the site, removing several walls and creating completely different areas.

What we have ended up with is space for four game rooms, two toilets (one accessible) and much improved staff and workroom facilities for everything that goes on behind the scenes. We now also have air-conditioning throughout to keep you warm or cool, depending on our fickle weather…

Downstairs is designed as an airy, bright space with a generous lobby area. As you go upstairs, you enter a moody, cinematic space that leads to our Sub Terra and CREW games.

We are particularly happy that the remodel from scratch gave us the chance to theme every aspect of the building for an immersive experience throughout. Down to the smallest detail, such as the lockers. Aside from the actual game rooms, our themed loos have proved particularly popular. But we won’t share any pictures of them, because we want to keep some surprises in store!

What’s next?

A new game of course! Alex has been beavering away in the background, working on our next puzzle experience. We don’t want to reveal too much at this stage, but we are really excited about introducing a new concept. And we can tell you that behind that intriguing door in the lobby – the wooden door with the cast iron fittings – a beautiful set is taking shape.

More information to follow before long…
