We’ve got lots of new ideas but not much time to work on them, so we’re looking for a casual member of staff to join us as an Experience Host at our Cheney Manor venue.
This would be a flexible weekend role, with hours depending on bookings. As we often take last-minute bookings, this might suit someone who is local and available at relatively short notice. We run games with start times from 10am to 8.30pm, so the successful applicant should be comfortable with late finishes. We currently have 3 unique games to host and full training will be provided. Pay starts at £8.50 – £9.50 per hour, depending on experience.
We think the escape room industry is a really fun place to work, and it is particularly rewarding when you help to create a memorable shared experience for players. We hope to build a welcoming and friendly team to help us keep growing!
The successful applicant will undertake some or all the following tasks:
- Resetting the game rooms correctly and efficiently
- Welcoming players on arrival
- Giving a pre-game verbal briefing to teams
- Monitoring the experiences, using own initiative to provide suitable hints at the correct time
- Taking team photos and giving a verbal debrief after the game, as well as demonstrating any aspects of the games left to be solved
- Basic maintenance and helping to keep the games and venue clean and tidy
- Providing a fun overall experience to the players
- Creating content for our website and social media accounts
- Answering the phone and managing bookings
- Any other reasonable tasks
Who are we looking for?
As an Experience Host, we’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and engaging when interacting with players. You will need to be comfortable talking/presenting to small groups. Previous experience in a customer service role would be great, but is not essential if you can demonstrate confident verbal communication skills.
Full training will be provided so you don’t need to have played or run any escape rooms before, although an interest in puzzles/gaming/immersive experiences is desirable.
You should be comfortable with technology as you’ll be using a computer and CCTV to monitor games. While running a game you’ll be devoting your entire attention to the team for a full 60-90 minutes without distractions, which means you’ll be ready to give the correct help at the appropriate time if it is needed. Clues are mostly given as typed messages, so effective written communication skills are also required.
Excellent timekeeping and punctuality will help you manage your tasks so that teams are not kept waiting. A good attention to detail is also important for making sure that rooms are reset correctly every time. An integral part of resetting and preparing each game room is being able to reach, crouch, stretch, lift and move various objects around.
How to apply:
We have now filled this role, but if you would like to be considered for future positions please email us a CV and covering letter which we will keep on file.
